Olá, amigos.

 

No próximo dia 22 de maio abre em Sydney (Austrália) uma exposição chamada There Goes The Neighbourhood (http://www.theregoestheneighbourhood.org), organizada por Zanny Begg e Keg de Souza. Talvez alguns de vocês se recordem que a frase “There Goes The Neighbourhood” é o título de uma música da banda Body Count (formada pelo rapper Ice T), que lamentava a “invasão” de pessoas pobres e negras morando agora em um bairro rico e branco (ver o vídeo da música aqui: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rloidlFbi4w).

 

O título da música serviu perfeitamente à proposta da exposição, que é a de justamente discutir um outro tipo de transformação e de destruição de um bairro quando as pessoas mais pobres são empurradas para fora da sua comunidade local pela gentrificação. Esta questão é particularmente relevante para o subúrbio de Redfern em Sydney, onde está acontecendo a mostra, um lugar descrito como o “coração negro” da Austrália e um centro importante para a classe trabalhadora e a comunidade indígena, agora vivenciando o rápido processo de desenvolvimento e mudança.    

 

Para a exposição, Zanny e Keg chamaram uma série de artistas e coletivos que apresentarão exemplos e histórias sobre os processos de gentrificação ocorridos em seus respectivos países. Participam da exposição Brenda L. Croft (Austrália), 16beaver (EUA), Daniel Boyd (Australia), Temporary Services (EUA), Jakob Jakobsen (Dinamarca), Lisa Kelly (Australia), SquatSpace (Australia), Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro (Alemanha/Australia), Evil Brothers (Australia), You Are Here (Australia), Michael Rakowitz (EUA), Miklos Erhardt and Little Warsaw (Hungria), Bijari (Brasil) e Democracia (Espanha).

 

Junto da exposição, está sendo lançado um livro que reúne textos e estudos de caso sobre gentrificação em diversos países. E olha, o projeto está sensacional! Acho que é a primeira vez em que eu vejo um livro reunindo tantos exemplos e reflexões importantes sobre o assunto. A publicação reúne muita coisa boa.
